A Gaia Tea Party #2

*Jeannie made that! not me!*

Yay! I was invited to Gaia Office Tea Party again. I was busy that day, so I ended up just making Chocolate House Cakelets and some Chicken Salad Sandwiches. I wanted to frost the cakes and make a swiss meringue buttercream flower forest. I ended up making the frosting, but didn't have time to decorate, so I shoved the frosting in the refrigerator T_T.

I think this tea party is better than the last one. Rosie brought table cloth too XD. She also made scones that were really good, and she even made fake clotted cream which I must say tasted pretty close to the real thing but it's more dense. Wen brought a really tasty peach tea, and I think there were more food than last time. It was also Jeannie's last day at Gaia, so it was also a mini Jeannie going away party. The artists made her a little book filled with their drawings of her. It was so sweet. After group hugs/cries, we started to attack the food. Jeannie made a rainbow cake to represent her 6 years at Gaia. It was a beautiful cake. I took pictures! :3

Pixar @ OMCA SF

Pixar Exhibit at Oakland Museum of California is summed up to one word, "wow". I remember when I first saw Finding Nemo in the theater, I almost cried because the colors of the film was so beautiful. Not only that it was beautiful to look at, it also had such a wonderful story. Nemo, Up, Monsters Inc., Toy Story all made me teary T_T. Even their shorts are amazing! Okay I'm sounding like a crazy fangirl now.

Anyways, I love the color scripts, the character sketches, and the maquettes were soooo cool. They also have the Pixar Zeotrope which was just as brilliant as the Studio Ghibli's Zoetropein Japan. My favorite thing though, is probably the little Edna sketches on the wall below the Edna displays lol. They look like doodles from a character sheet.

They didn't allow photos in the Pixar exhibit, but they did allow you to take pics inside the rest of the museum. I've never been to this museum before, but I really enjoyed it. There were a lot of things to see. I wish I took my dad with me when he was here. The history section of the museum was very fun.

Academy of Science SF

My dad came to visit for a few days. We hung out and ate a lot of yummy things. Then we decided to spend a day in SF. I took him to Disney Family Museum. He really liked it there (no photos allow though). Academy of Science on the other hand let's you take pictures of almost everything :). They had a white crocodile. I've never seen one before. The rainforest area was really beautiful especially on the top floor. The butterflies flutter around you. It was beautiful. That day was actually a super rainy day. Despite waiting in the super long line in the rain to get in, we had a lot of fun.

A Christmas Tea Party

I had a wonderful christmas this year. I had my first proper English Tea Party. I got to eat scones! Seriously, I never knew that English clotted cream is THAT amazing. I didn't care if it was fattening anymore... I just ate that cream by the spoon lol. My aunt and uncle showed us what a real English Tea Party is like, and it was bloody brilliant :D.

My aunt made Chicken Pot pie too. I remember Laine craving chicken pot pie last week, and oh boy, would she be super jealous if she saw this >:D. The crust was light and crispy, and the inside was steamy and perfect. We had Mariage Freres tea, then I gobbled down Sweet Lady Jane's cupcakes. I was so happy. As usual, they also had the cutest christmas tea. I love how it's so slim and it slightly tilts in a whimsical way. What a lovely day :).

LA Car Show 2010

This morning, I went to eat Dim Sum at Harbor Seafood in Rosemead with Lak and Rudy. That place is sooo good. I definitely overate, but my tummy was super happy especially since I’ve been on rice broth diet for a few days. I was sick during Thanksgiving, so I couldn’t eat anything. Finally! this totally made up for that thanksgiving dinner hehe.

In the evening, I went to LA Auto Show with my dad. I’m not as into cars as my dad, but it’s always nice to spend some quality time with dad <3. I do like the Fiat though. They were so cute. Look at all the fancy car pics :p!

CTN expo

I found out about CTN animation Expo a little late, but I decided to go check it out anyways. I heard that it’s a relatively new convention. I finally got to meet Glenn Vilpuu. He is such a kind man. When I was taking oil painting class in college, my teacher was such a big fan of his. He would always tell me that I should look at Vilpuu’s art. I love that teacher. He really loves what he does, and it showed. Since he was such a big Vilpuu’s fan, I’ve always wanted to meet Vilpuu in person. He told me that there are so many famous artists at the show. It’s too bad I can’t recognize anyone :(. There were also a lot of students everywhere.

I met someone from Canada and from England. They were here for portfolio reviews. Disney booth had a very long line for that. I didn’t see Nickelodeon there which I thought was rather odd. The studio is right down the street from the con. There were a lot of panels going on. I went to Chris Sander’s How to Train Your Dragon one. They were funny. It was mainly about the storyline. The lines for the panels are super long, so I didn’t really go to too many. I sat in the overflow room to watch some of them on the screen though.

I got to talk to many artists. Armand from Sony pictures was especially sweet. He had a lot of nice things to say about my works which made me very happy. I was glad that he was able to see my though process for many of them. Not too many people actually notices little things like that. I also got to play with the Cintiq for about an hour. I think I’m still more of an Intuos person, but it was still fun to play around with the Cintiq for a bit.
