Surrealism Show @ LACMA

I like how the art extends over to the sidewalls.
Mitsu wanted to go check out the Surrealism show at LACMA even though we are both not really into surrealism art lol. I like some of them, but most of them I didn't really get it. A lot were kind of scary and super weird too. I mean I'm into weird art, but these were REALLLY weird lol. It was nice that I get to see a lot of the originals from famous surreal artists though. I remember that my friend, Lak, was very into Max Ernst, and I finally got to see some of those pieces. When we worked together, he had his book and we used to always say Loplop (randomly) since it's Max Ernst alter-ego that's a one eye chicken (see? Weird!! but I have weird friends so I'm quite odd sometimes too. It's your friends' influence, you know lol).

They didn't let us take any pictures inside at all, so I don't have anything to post for the Surreal art section :(. We did explore the other sections of the museums and they were very interesting to me though. I really liked the Polynesian artifacts section. I think if you are into character designs, those artifacts are such great references! There were crazy masks, helmets, and some items that I thought would make very awesome weapons (in my head). I was so excited because of all the possibilities. I also liked the Japanese art section. They have miniature sculptures that were like an inch or two inches tall that were super intricate.
For lunch, we went to Toscana in Brentwood for Vongole and Shrimp Gnocchi with vodka sauce. Desserts were from Harajuku Crepe in Beverly Hills. First of all, I love Japanese Crepes because unlike french crepes, they have a little bit of a crispy texture on the outer edges. They are also not as mushy as the french ones. The thing that makes Harajuku crepe special to me is that it's the only place that I know that serves flavored crepe batter. I got an Earl Gray flavored one with homemade Mochi and vanilla ice-cream. My friend got a green tea flavored crepe with Black Sesame Ice-cream. They were so delicious. :)

LA Art Walk - Oct. 2012

This is my first time doing an art walk. I went with Rudy and Sunny. Since it's October, everything seems to be Halloween or Day of the Death theme. Well, I wonder if it's because it's October or if it's always like this @_@. Mitsu recommended that we stop by The Hive gallery, and that was probably my favorite gallery from the whole art walk lol. The pictures that I took were from there.

We also stopped by another gallery, which were giving out free Naked Juice drinks. I forgot the name of the gallery, but they had pretty good art too. The thing that I really like about that place though was probably the decor.

Disney Halloween 2012

It's Halloween time at Disneyland again. This time, one of my friend came to visit from Korea, so it's a perfect timing to take her. She's never been there before, so everything is new to her. I think she had a lot of fun. I'm a good tour guide, since I've been there so many times hehe. The thing that's so beautiful about Disneyland is the little details that they put into everything. I'd always see something new every time I'm there like the little scratch marks on the Jungle cruise ships that shows the location of the treasure :). The intricate details on everything and the little added disney touch is so wonderful. The little children in costumes are also super cute hehe.


There is also something else about Disneyland that I really like and that is the Disney gallery. It's too bad that most people overlook this place whenever they go to Disneyland. Last time I came, there was a Mary Blair special exhibit, and this time it's the Disney Castle. It's always changing, so there is always something new to see. The artworks in there are also super beautiful. These are concept sketches for all the Disney castles (theme parks and animation).

GR's Biennele 3 @ JANM

Gary, Rudy, Sunny, and I met up in Japan Town LA for the Giant Robot's Biennele 3 exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum. We stopped by Japanese Village and got some snacks, then head to the museum. They served a bunch of tasty food at the museum since it's the opening night. I got to try a grape infused tea that was super tasty too. The bottom floor displayed a lot of modified plastic and vinyl toys by many many artists.
The top floor featured artworks by Rob Sato, Ako Castuera, Deth P. Sun, Sean Chao, Eishi Takaoka, Saelee Oh, Albert Reyes, and Zach gage. Truthfully, I'm not familiar with any of these artists except for Deth P. Sun. I saw his works on a newstand that was for Jonathan Gold's breakfast event and it caught my eye. I was thinking "how cute!", then I went to look up his name afterwards lol. Sunny was a big fan of Rob Sato's work. He's super skilled and very very detailed. I'm more of a fan of Sean Chao and Deth P. Sun though hehe. Maybe because there are a lot of cats in their art and I'm a crazy cat lady! >;p
