Tim Burton Exhibit & More

Tim Burton Exhibit!
My friends and I decided to visit a few different exhibits today. First stop was LACMA's Tim Burton Exhibit. I thought it was awesome. There are so many things to see. He's so crazy! (in a good way) You can see all these super cool things that came out of his head lol. There were a lot of creature designs, character designs, and cute little poems that remind me of Edward Gorey's works. I think Tim Burton is like a dark Dr. Seuss lol. His sketches are whimsical, weird, funny, and scary. They are very lose and rough. He seems to especially like ink and markers. I love the way he adds patterns and color to make his sketches really pop. There are also sections in the back with costumes from batman, Edward Scissorhands, etc. It's really cool. They didn't let you take photos inside, so I only got pics of the entrance and the exit. I also bought the Romeo and Juliet print as a souvenir (last image) ^_^.
Other than the Burton Gallery, there are a lot of other things to see at LACMA. The architecture outside is really nice. There are a lot of statues, and other fun interactive things. There are also a few other galleries going on as well. I didn't get to to around much this time, but I'm definitely going to come back and visit again soon :d.


After LACMA, we went to Merry Karnowsky Gallery. I fell in love with Femke Hiemstra's works. Unlike Tim Burton's rough sketches, Femke Hiemstra's artworks are extremely polished and detailed. These were wonderful illustrations. The subjects are also very fun and they made me smile. She's so skilled. They are also currently showing Audrey Kawasaki and Dee Dee Cheriel's works as well.

Then we went to The Beauty Cultrue Exhibit at The Annenberg Space for Photography. That one was very cool, but it left such an eerie feeling afterwards T_T. It shows different views of Beauty and how it changes as time goes by. There are photographs of tribal girls, overweight girls, super skinny girls, body builder girls, models, etc. It also talks about how young girls feel about being beautifu as well as what older people think of beauty. The show is really quite interesting. No pictures since they didn't allow photography.

After that we stopped by 3rd Street in Santa Monica and walked around <3

My favorite bookstore is closing down. *sob* I tried going to Barnes and Nobles and it was packed. I couldn't find any place to sit, so I went to sit in the Children's book section. A cute little boy came by and handed me an Elmo plush. Then he ran to grab Big Bird plush and ran back to hand that one to me too. Aww he's gonna grow up to be such a kind boy. Either a super kind type or a totally playboy type! lol ^^

I don't usually go to see a Photo Gallery that often, but I'm so glad that I went to see this one. My friend worked with him on Snapples advertisement campaign, so he asked if I wanted to go check out the show. Apparently, other than taking all these super cool animals pictures, he's also very skillful at food photography.

We went to the opening, and this show's theme is "Amaranthine, Sea, and Serpentine". The colors, patterns, and shapes of the animals are sooo wonderful. I was very inspired. I think people that are able to do photography well is very amazing. Everyone can take pictures, but only a few are able to capture the moment so perfectly. We also got to say hi to Mark Laita. He laughed and said that he saw my friend 3 times already this week (since they just worked together on an ad campaign). Afterwards, my friend and I went to eat curry at Curry House. :d

SDCC 2011

SDCC 2011 is finally over. We are so tired, but it's the good kind of tired. It's such a wonderful feeling to be able to connect with people that really like what we do. I think we have the best customers in the world! There was a customer that came by to get a penguin who didn't get one last year. She said that she regretted not getting the penguin for the whole year! Awww <3. A few customers last year also came back for more Picolettes Zipper pulls. A lot of people would buy one and come back later for more. That has to mean that they like our Picolettes right? *beams* I love seeing the collection that people have. There was a very cute girl that kept coming back to hug the yeti. When her mom dragged her away, she'd run back and give our baby yeti another kiss before she ran off again. I took a picture of her hugging the yeti (center pic). Her smile made our day. We also got a surprised gift art from Mister Raroo who stopped by our booth. He drew Sunny and me as little sharks! I'm going to frame it because it's so adorable.


I forgot my camera this year. James came on Saturday and Sunday, so he was able to take some pictures. They were promoting "Adventure Time" quite a bit. The Rainicorn parade on the street was lovely with twinkling green lights. There was also a Team Coco gallery that showed off the Flaming C Conan artworks. Viewers also got to take a picture with either a cape or a kitchen mitten next to Conan both shooting laser eyebeams. It's really awesome. Sunny took one. You also get to keep either the cape or the glove as a souvenir.


Comic cons are always full of interesting cosplayers. Some are amazingly skillful, some are just funny, some sparkly, and some makes you go "aww <3".
There are robots everywhere.

Disneyland Trip

Watermelon Cotton Candy!

I went to Disneyland! I haven't been there in a while. This time, it's a big group of 9 people! We had so much fun. I usually don't go to Disneyland in the middle of the summer, so I forgot how hot it can be. I totally got sun burnt. My cheeks and nose were super red.


This time I finally tried the famous corn dog on main street. I concur that it is one of the best corn dog out there. I think it's the best I've ever had. I also tried the other famous Monte Cristo sandwich. Well, we shared that because it's very rich and probably super bad for your heart lol. It's a deep fried turkey&ham&cheese sandwich. The bread/batter is slightly sweet and the texture is like doughnut. You eat it dipped in lightly sweetened jam. It's VERY good. My favorite is still the fried chicken at the Plaza Inn though. It's so good! I have to eat this every time I go to Disneyland *drools*.


We saw Alice and the Mad Hatter at the entrance. While we were eating, Mary Poppins walked by. She was very pretty. The popular Peter Pan also walked by. Lihn's cousin was super excited to see him and got some pictures. She even saved it as her phone wallpaper which I thought was super cute. I think he made her day. It's just nice to see everyone having such a great time.


They are doing a lot of construction at Disney California adventure. I guess there will be a lot of newer attractions there. My lovely uncle got us a VIP pass for the "World of Color" show, so we got to see it from a very good spot. I haven't seen that show before. It was so beautiful. I actually teared up lol. The colors and just the overwhelming gigantic display... wow. Seriously though, it puts the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas to shame. Those disney animations are so amazing. I love Disney! *fangirl mode*



I was sick for the next two days most likely from the intense heat and eating all the deep fried food without washing my hands first. I had a blast at Disneyland though. It was totally worth it :D

Nice Old Ladies

Met two nice old ladies at the bookstore today. They were so cute, friendly, and as they said "young at heart" hehe. :)
